T95 Casing Pipe — Complete Guide to API 5CT T95 Specifications & Applications

T95 Casing Pipe

What Is API 5CT T95 Casing Pipe?

T95 is a quenched-and-tempered grade defined under API 5CT, belonging to Group 2 alongside grades such as C90 and R95. It has a controlled yield strength of 95,000–110,000 psi and a minimum tensile strength of 105,000 psi. T95-1, the primary sub-type, is specifically engineered for SSC (sulfide stress cracking) resistance, making T95 casing pipe an ideal choice for sour-service environments containing hydrogen sulfide (H₂S). API T95 casing conforms strictly to API 5CT chemical, mechanical, and dimensional requirements, including hardness limits (HRC ≤ 25.4) to ensure reliable performance under corrosive downhole conditions. T95 casing & tubing covers sizes from 2⅜″ to 20″, serving production, intermediate, and surface string applications across demanding well profiles. As a high-performance T95 steel pipe, it offers an excellent balance of strength, toughness, and sour-service capability for oil and gas wells where resistance to sulfide stress cracking is critical.

T95 Chemical Composition (per API 5CT)

API 5CT T95 casing pipe is divided into two chemical sub-types — T95-1 and T95-2. T95-1 is a low-alloy Cr-Mo grade engineered for sour-service (H₂S) environments, while T95-2 is a higher carbon / manganese variant. All values below are mass-percentage maximums unless a range is specified.

T95 Mechanical Properties

T95 steel pipe delivers a controlled, narrow yield window of 95,000 – 110,000 psi with strict hardness limits to ensure resistance to sulfide stress cracking (SSC). Both T95-1 and T95-2 share identical mechanical requirements under API 5CT.

All three grades have the same 95 ksi yield strength — but only T95 can be used in sour (H₂S) wells. Use the table to spot the difference, then check which grade fits your well in the decision cards below.

T95-1 or T95-2
If your well is
Sweet, high pressure, cost-sensitive
C95
If your spec says
“T95-1 only” — don’t swap to Type 2 without approval
T95-1

T95-1 vs T95-2 — What’s the Difference?

Mechanically identical. The only difference is the chemistry route — primarily the Cr-Mo balance — that the mill is allowed to use. For sour service they perform the same. Treat them as interchangeable unless the customer specification pins a type.

T95 vs C95 — What’s the Difference?

Same strength window, very different qualification. T95 is heat-treated and tested for H₂S service — capped hardness, fine grain size, and a mandatory NACE SSC test on every heat. C95 has none of those controls, so it costs less but is unsafe in sour wells. C95 is being phased out in new projects in favor of T95.

What is the difference between T95 and C95 casing pipe?

T95 and C95 share similar yield strength (95,000 psi), but T95 is specifically designed for sour service (H₂S environments) with stricter hardness and SSC testing requirements, while C95 is intended for sweet service only.

Can T95 casing pipe be used in sour gas wells?

Yes. API 5CT T95 casing pipe meets NACE MR0175 requirements for sour service. It offers SSC resistance with a maximum hardness of 255 HBW, making it suitable for wells containing hydrogen sulfide.

What sizes are available for API 5CT T95 casing?

Common OD sizes range from 4-1/2″ to 13-3/8″, supplied in seamless form with SC, LC, or BC thread connections. Custom sizes and premium connections (e.g., VAMTOP,TSH Blue) are also available from specialized suppliers.
